Broadband consumers increasingly turning to internet to save money
Recent research has shown that more and more broadband customers are turning to the Internet to save money in light of the current difficult financial conditions.
There is little doubt that over recent months the financial conditions in the UK have become increasingly difficult, with more and more households suffering problems when it comes to making the household budget stretch as far as it needs to. According to a recent report the financial crisis in the UK has resulted in more people turning to the Internet in order to try and save money on their outgoings.
The research was carried out by the online research firm, Hitwise, which spent time monitoring consumers’ Internet use. According to the results of the research carried out by the firm, more people are now using the Internet to find better deals and cut back on their outgoings, with many turning to price comparison sites to try and find the best deals on a range of services and products.
One official from the firm said: ‘This is the first real economic downturn to have occurred during the internet age. As you would expect, people are using the internet to find cheaper goods and services, but also to find information on everything from the reasons behind the credit crunch to money-saving DIY tips.’
It was found that many consumers were also using their broadband connection to try and keep up with financial news in the current volatile financial climate, where the financial sector is rapidly changing. Many others were using the Internet to try and secure money off deals and vouchers in order to try and save money.
The official from Hitwise added: ‘People are shopping around more and looking for bargains. It used to be older, slightly less affluent people, mainly women, using these sites, but this is no longer the case as the credit crunch hits.’
