According to officials from one analysis company the number of broadband connections is set to soar to one billion over the next five years, with global access to fixed line services continuing to increase.

For many people in the UK and in many other countries round the world having fixed line broadband has become something of a necessity in their lives, with many using their broadband services for work or business purposes. Whilst some people now use mobile broadband services for many there is still a reliance on fixed line broadband, and this is because of the increased capabilities and speeds that fixed line usually offers.

One analysis group has now stated that there is set to be a surge in global fixed line connections, and has claimed that this is set to increase to one billion connections across the world by 2015. The claim was made by analysts and Strategy Analytics, who have said that this figure will most likely be reached by the end of 2015.

The company has also said that although DSL will continue to be the dominant platform the more advanced fibre optic broadband networks will become far more popular over the specified time period. In fact, the company claimed that in five years time around twenty five percent of households would be accessing broadband via fibre optic networks.

The company went on to state that growth in the fixed line broadband sector across the world had been massive. However, one official from the company also added: “It is important to note that in 2010, more than 60 per cent of households worldwide have no access to the internet – much less broadband.”
