Broadband business park could create many jobs
A former hospital site in Bodmin is to be made into a business and accommodation park and will take advantage of the superfast broadband access in the area.

It has been announced recently that a former hospital site in Bodmin is to be turned into a business and accommodation park, which will take advantage of the superfast broadband access in the area and could create around one thousand jobs. The broadband business park project is set to be a high-tech innovative one and has received backing from MPs and business leaders.
Set to become active early next year, Superfast Park is set to offer offices as well as houses and flats for employees and their families. It will also have eateries, a community venue, and even a convenience store. A new Cornwall Council hub will also be created at the site. The project has been made possible as a result of the superfast broadband that has been introduced in Cornwall.
Gil Patrick, chairman of the Foster Hall Charitable Trust and a member of Better Bodmin, put the proposals together. He said: “Bodmin is an early beneficiary of the Superfast Cornwall project which will deliver superfast broadband to the county ahead of most of the rest of the UK and, indeed, most of the rest of the world.”
He added: “For a while, Convergence funding and ERDF (European Regional Development Fund) funding will continue to be available to Cornwall. The next few years will offer an extraordinary window of opportunity to Cornwall, and particularly Bodmin, for economic development. The proposal is to create a large site with suitable offices, residences and amenities to meet the needs of those in both the private and public sectors able to use superfast broadband most effectively and to the greatest advantage. In particular, the site will meet the needs of major private-sector investors who will demand an excellent working and living environment for their employees.”
