A recent report has shown that many UK broadband users would be jealous if they discovered that the speeds that their neighbours were getting were faster than the speeds that they were able to achieve.
Broadband speed is a major issue for most people that sign up to broadband, and those that end up with slower speed connection often feel frustrated and stressed with their service. One recent report has suggested that British broadband users could be suffering from ‘broadband envy’ with a recent study showing that many Brits would be jealous if they were to find out that the speeds that their neighbours were receiving with their broadband connections were faster than the speeds that they were achieving.
In fact, the study showed that this scenario would make around six out of ten Brits jealous, equating to sixty percent of Brits having so called broadband envy. In fact, Brits have become so obsessed with their broadband speeds that they base their choice of location to live on the speed of the broadband that they are likely to get rather than their proximity to amenities such as shops and pubs.
The speeds that broadband users are able to achieve are dependant on a number of factors, including where they live, what time of day they use their internet, and the type of package that they have taken out. However, one industry official said that whilst speed was a very important factor for most broadband users there were one or two areas that were even more important to some users.
He said: “While broadband speeds are very important, our own research has shown that it is not the number one priority when it comes to the internet. More than a third of consumers told us that connection reliability was their number one concern in a recent survey, followed by broadband speeds and value for money. Having said that, few people would want to move to a broadband ‘not spot’ and lose all the benefits of a reliable, fast broadband connection.”
