Brits spend more time working due to remote internet access

According to one Internet service provider Britain is becoming a nation of workaholics that are addicted to the internet, with remote internet access driving more and more people to working longer hours.

In years gone by people went to work, finished their day’s work, came home, and relaxed until it was time for work again. However, advancements in technology have resulted in a real change in this trend and more and more Brits are now continuing to work even when they have officially finished work for the day or the week.

These days many people have access to technology such as mobile broadband or they are able to access their office to work remotely from home. Whilst this is something that can offer real convenience and flexibility one Internet provider said that it is also turning Britain into a nation of workaholics that are addicted to the Internet.

Remote internet access is resulting in Brits spending an average of ten hours conducting work related activities over the Christmas holidays, according to the Internet provider Demon Broadband. A survey was carried out by the ISP and the results showed that around sixty one percent of workers would be conducting some sort of work related activity from home during the Christmas break.

One broadband industry official said: “The need to be connected can become an obsession, and checking work e-mails every five minutes while the turkey is being served up, could end up causing a family rift and spoiling Christmas for everyone.”
