Britain and US sees drop in Facebook usage
It is reported that there has been a drop in usage for the popular social networking site Facebook in both the United States and the UK.

Facebook has become a global phenomenon amongst broadband and internet users in many major countries around the world. However, according to recent reports usage of this hugely popular social networking site has been dropping in the UK and the United States. The data comes from Facebook itself and indicates that the site may have reached saturation point in many of the countries where it first took off.
Based on the sites own advertising tool, Inside Facebook states that nearly six million users in the United States abandoned the Facebook ship during the month of May. The figures showed that at the beginning of May there were 155.2 million US users, which compared to 149.4 million at the end. In the UK more than 100,000 users abandoned the site, with similar losses experienced in Russia and Norway.
Inside Facebook’s Eric Eldon said: “By the time Facebook reaches around 50 per cent of the total population in a given country (plus or minus, depending on internet access rates in that country), growth generally slows to a halt.” He added: “So far, Facebook has been able to make up stalls and losses with big gains in heavily-populated developing countries like Mexico, Brazil, India and Indonesia.”
It has been claimed recently that the social networking giant may be planning to crack the Chinese market where there are now five hundred million Internet users, but given the lack of success that other corporate giants such as eBay and Google have had in this market the chances of success would not be great.
Have you recently abandoned the social networking site?
