Better than expected growth in UK broadband connections this year
Figures that were recently released have shown that the level of broadband connections for this year so far has exceeded expectations from industry officials.
With the ongoing recession still gripping the UK and the financial crisis still wreaking havoc across the nation most people have been looking to make cutbacks on their monthly outgoings and save some money, particularly given the turbulent situation on the employment front. Many have cut back on services ranging from broadband services to insurance cover and more in order to try and save money.
However, a recent report has shown that the level of broadband connections in the UK for this year so far as actually exceeded expectations from industry officials, suggesting that the recession and volatile financial climate is not hitting the broadband industry as hard as it may be hitting other sectors.
Officials from the research group Point Topic have revealed that around four hundred and forty five thousand new connections have come into play in the UK since the start of the year. This figures was around one hundred thousand more than the group had predicted, reflecting the popularity of broadband even in the depressing financial climate.
The group has now revised its other forecasts and has predicted that by the end of 2013 there could be around twenty three million broadband connections in the UK. However, despite these encouraging figures the group has also said that it is likely that by 2014 there will still be around six million that do not have a web connection. Only twelve million pounds is said to have been put aside to aid universal broadband connection so far, and one official said: “Allowing only £12 million to get more homes online looks pretty weak when you consider the size of the task on one side and the potential benefits on the other.”
