BBC to name iPlayer throttlers
It has been announced that the BBC is to publish a list of Internet service providers that make it very difficult for broadband users to access BBC iPlayer during peak times.

There is a lot of controversy over the throttling of bandwidth that is undertaken by some Internet providers during busy times of the day when it comes to Internet traffic. This process can make it very difficult for broadband users to stream content, play games, and do other things that require more bandwidth, which can prove very frustrating for broadband users.
Many people that try and access iPlayer and similar sites during peak times are likely to find that it is very difficult or even impossible to get the access that they need. In many cases the broadband user lays the blame at the door of the BBC or the website itself. However, officials said that in most of these cases the slowdown is down to the Internet provider.
The ISPs place a limit on users to avoid problems when a high level of traffic is directed to such sites, which is what can happen during peak times. Of course, it is not something that the ISPs advertise or boast about, but when the BBC published its list of ISPSs that place these limits on customers many will be enlightened with regards to why these problems are arising.
The BBC is also launching a traffic light system on the iPlayer website, which will provide consumers with access to data that will show them whether and when their ISP is reducing their bandwidth. It may also help consumers to choose the most appropriate provider if they are signing up to a new broadband provider.
