In the UK broadband networks are spreading at a rapid pace and the number of customers inside the coverage area is increasing day by day. BT has now decided to take their faster broadband to another 34,000 Cambridgeshire homes and businesses.

They are planning to cover 51 East of England communities, including Histon, Kimbolton, Woolley, Wansford, Bottisham, Crafts Hill, Sawston, Soham, Madingley, Melbourn and Somersham by summer 2012. These areas will get BT’s next generation broadband service through the copper lines.
The company is targeting to provide broadband speeds of up to 20 megabits per second (Mbps), which is more than double the maximum speeds currently available. Moreover, they are planning to launch the superfast fiber-based broadband service to two-thirds of the UK premises by the end of 2014.
The Cambridgeshire County Council is providing all assistance to BT, to bring the superfast broadband service in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough. They believe that the arrival of faster broadband networks will play an important role in improving their business and community wellbeing.
On the new broadband expansion, Ian Bates, Cabinet Member for Growth and Planning in Cambridgeshire County Council feels that faster and better broadband services will change their economic status. The high speed communication network will provide more opportunities for people to work from their homes and expand business.
Meanwhile, Dave Hughes, BT’s East of England regional director pointed out that these major improvements in the broadband services will surely encourage the local businesses and local households by providing additional educational and entertainment opportunities especially in this time of economic uncertainty.
