It has been announced by the broadband solutions provider 2Wire that the rollout of 2Wire HomePortal® intelligent gateways has been announced by BT allowing its subscribers to connect to its fibre-based, high speed broadband network.

The first step in the deployment of the BT Next Generation Access (NGA) strategy will be the laying of fibre cabling to the premises services at Ebbsfleet (UK).

Sean Parham, general manager and executive vice president said “For more than five years, 2Wire has supported BT and its customers with reliable, high-quality residential gateways. We are honoured to have been chosen by BT to support this bold new venture, and excited that even more BT customers will experience the benefits of a whole-home, high-speed network enabled by a HomePortal gateway.”

Head of NGA, BT, Andy Kelly stated “We are proud to bring super-fast broadband connectivity to our customers in the UK and are eager to partner with companies who share our vision for the next phase of the broadband revolution.”

The high speed, fibre-based broadband network from BT will give its users the speed required to use many bandwidth-hungry applications simultaneously. To give an indication of the power of this network service, family members could be playing games, watching a high-definition (HD) movie and working on intensive video / graphics projects all at the same time. The “upstream” speeds for this new service have also undergone dramatic increases which will enable users to make use of HD video conferencing, play interactive HD games or post videos.

The features of the 2Wire HomePortal2701HGV which is TR-069 standard-compliant intelligent residential gateway include an advanced ADSL2+ modem, easy self-installation, an Ethernet network connector, a HyperG(R) Wireless router that offers users wireless coverage throughout the home, enhanced security via a professional quality firewall and internet telephony (VoIP ) support.

The gateway offers the ability for many different users to share internet access, printers, files and networked applications wirelessly on any device in the house that is networked.
