Most users unlikely to benefit from Be Broadband connection flexibility

Following the announcement from Be Broadband that it is enabling its customers to customise their connections based on their needs, some reports now claim that few people will really feel any benefit from these flexile connections

Very recently officials from Be Broadband announced that the Internet Service Provider was enabling its customers to set their broadband connections to suit their needs, based on what they use the Internet for. The ISP was offering four different settings with connections to suit different user types, such as those that download a lot of material or those that use the Internet for playing games online.

However, some industry officials have said that there are actually very few people that will benefit from this more flexible connection. The four settings that are on offer from Be Broadband include a basic setting for everyday Internet use, as well as settings to increase speeds or reliability. One industry official said, however, that it was unlikely that users would want to spend time messing and fiddling with their connections if all they wanted to do was check their emails or use Facebook.

He did add, however, that the service could prove valuable to people that stream large amounts of media online, such as those using services such as BBC iPlayer where speeds may need to be optimised in order to cope with the content. Gamers, also, were likely to most benefit from the setting options he added, as many need to optimise their speeds for gaming.

He went on to state: “The only real way in which this affects heavy downloaders is that the time spent waiting for files to finish transferring will be shortened; broadband optimisation will not limit or increase the amount you can download in any way.”
