PC World runs out of free laptops in broadband offer

August 22nd, 2007 by Richard

The PC World and Orange offer of a free laptop with the broadband service has proven so popular that the computer retail giant has run out of laptops.

Over the past few weeks consumers in the UK have been flocking to take up an offer that has been run by PC World in conjunction with Orange broadband. The computer retail giant has been offering a free laptop worth £300 to consumers that sign up to a two year deal for broadband with Orange, which will cost £14.99 a month after three months at half price. Tens of thousands of laptops had been put aside for interested consumers, but officials from PC World have now announced that the offer was so popular that they have now run out of the allocated laptop computers that had been put aside.

PC World officials stated that the offer has proven hugely popular with consumers, which has resulted in all of the laptops being used up far more quickly than had been envisaged. The offer was made by PC World and Orange shortly before a similar offer was announced by the Carphone Warehouse and AOL. This offer, according to reports, is still running, although the monthly charges are higher than those charged on the Orange deal.

With the Carphone Warehouse and AOL deal consumers will still be tied in for two years, but will be paying £19.99 a year for the service. However, although the monthly fee is higher than with orange, the laptop that is being offered by the Carphone Warehouse is worth slightly more, valued at £500. With competition between broadband providers fiercer than ever, these offers have served as valuable incentives to get consumers to sign up for broadband services with these providers in an ever competitive field.

Consumers are warned, however, to remember that if they do take up this offer they will be tied in for a two year period, and are urged to think carefully as to whether they want to be tied in for such a long period, which many experts state is too much of a commitment.
