BTS debuts portable 4G LTE network in a box
I think it’s safe to say that the future of the mobile broadband industry lies in 4G LTE technology. While most of the world is already equipped with broadband networks, only a handful of countries have upgraded or are planning to upgrade their infrastructure to that of 4G. The UK has been planning to revamp the current broadband networks, so to speak. Obviously, such move will take time, effort, and finances.
But the more time it takes the UK to up the ante on 4G technology, the more residents and commercial establishments will stand to lose. In fact, a report has concluded that many businesses and residents in the UK might end up suffering due to delays in 4G LTE access. The delays may be partially attributed to the postponed 4G spectrum auction, as announced by Ofcom earlier this month. The regulator has received much criticism for the move.
There are many reasons why 4G LTE technology is beneficial, but it’s all basically in the speed. The faster a person can access information, make changes to online databases or records, or conduct business online, the more that he or she can do within a certain allocation of time. Swindon has been slated to set up the first 4G mobile network in the UK, with the project announced late last September by the city council. Cornwall is also undergoing a 4G mobile broadband trial conducted by BT Broadband and Everything Everywhere, which will last until early next year.

Aside from commerce, 4G technology would also greatly enhance communications, especially in hard to reach areas or during situations when being able to reach others is critical and crucial–in this case, places like war zones, such as in Afghanistan, for example. But if ISPs are taking such a long time to build such networks in safe zones and war-free neighborhoods, how much more complicated will it be to take such technology overseas?
BTS, however, has come up with a solution: pack all the technology into a four-pound box that will allow ready access to 4G. BTS and Radisys teamed up to work on the portable, mobile 4G LTE solution in a box and demonstrated how it worked just recently at the former’s headquarters in Columbia, MD.
The portable 4G technology is to be released under the CoreTx and Trillium line of products, which sees a bright future to bring 4G access to dangerous spots such as the aforementioned war zones.

The chief technology officer of BTC, Alex Watson, says: “Since the company’s formation, BTS has been dedicated to providing the smallest form factor, rapidly deployable self-organizing cellular network and we are proud to introduce CoreTx. CoreTx not only provides cellular service in areas that need it most, but delivers both 4G HSPA+ and LTE capabilities, allowing our customers to continue to leverage their 3G investments and to utilize the most advanced cellular technology currently on the market.”
Director of Trillium and Radisys, Todd Mersch, also added: “Battlefield cellular networks require all-inclusive solutions that must meet the stringent requirements of aerospace and defense suppliers. These collapsed cellular networks require flexible architectures for wider deployments, standards compliance for interoperability with other cellular networks and support for commercially available mobile handsets. Radisys’ end-to-end embedded wireless infrastructure solutions meet these requirements.”
