4G will see mobile broadband use increase
According to a UK consultancy, countries such as the UK and the United States will see the use of mobile broadband soar over the next five years as a result of 4G technology.
Both the UK and the United States have seen the popularity of mobile broadband services really take off over the past eighteen months, and many people now use mobile broadband dongles and smart phones to get online whilst on the move using the nation’s 3G broadband network. However, this increased popularity and take up of mobile broadband devices is putting a strain on the existing 3G networks, making it increasingly important for the next generation of networks to be brought in.
A number of network providers in both the UK and the United States have trialled 4G te4chnology, which is the next generation of networks, and both providers and consumers are keen to see this technology rolled out. Once 4G technology is in place mobile broadband users will be able to enjoy greater speeds and reliability, more network capacity tom do the things that they want to do via their mobile broadband service, and better coverage.
One UK consultancy has now predicted that the use of mobile broadband use, and in particular applications such as mobile video, will soar over the next five years as the roll out of 4G technology gives users the much needed capacity and speeds that are required to carry out activities such as these without a fixed line connection.
An official from the consultancy, Coda, said that the rollout of 4G could also eventually lead to tiered pricing from providers, stating: “Flat-rate pricing has helped drive mobile internet adoption, but we envisage that as smartphone penetration rises and as providers roll out 4G, providers will have to move toward tiered pricing.”
