Ireland to be helped by new satellite broadband service

In order to provide super fast broadband connections for households and businesses in the remote and rural parts of Ireland the Tooway satellite broadband service from Eutelsat Communications has been chosen as part of Ireland’s National Broadband Scheme.

The contract was recently won from Ireland’s leading mobile broadband provider 3, which is has been given the National Broadband Scheme to run by the government in Ireland and will see Tooway distributor Satellite Broadband Irelands providing various parts of Irelands with its unique services.

As much as 5 percent of the 223 000 rural buildings that have been targeted will be provided with satellite broadband services from Tooway and speeds of up to 3.6Mbps will be provided by this broadband service at a one-off cost of €49.00 for the hardware and installation followed by €19.99 a month for anyone who qualifies under the new scheme.

In order to provide this broadband scheme to the various designated electoral districts that will be covered by this new scheme the EU and the Irish government will be investing up to €79.8 million and €223 million will be invested by 3 to provide the National Broadband Scheme.

The multimedia director for Eutelsat, Arduino Patacchini said “The choice of Tooway and our partner Satellite Broadband Ireland to deliver broadband services to the most rural homes and businesses in Ireland underlines the core role satellites are actively playing in building an inclusive digital environment across Europe.”

The Satellite Broadband Ireland CEO, Kevin Ryan said “Satellite Broadband Ireland chose to use Eulestat’s world-leading Tooway satellite broadband technology as they are the largest broadband provider through satellite in Europe. Eutelsat’s experience in this sector was also a major factor in our selection.”
