An announcement has been made by 3 that it will connect any users having problems getting a fixed line broadband connection to its prepay mobile broadband package.

For any customers that have previously had difficulty getting a fixed line broadband contract, 3 has advised that it are more than happy to connect them to its mobile broadband service. The Inquirer technology news provider was told by 3 that there were many different reasons why users would be unable to get themselves onto a fixed line broadband contract and that mobile broadband is a simple and effective way to resolve this problem and get users online.

3 has advised that it welcomes any users who were unable to get a fixed line contract for financial reasons or just didn’t want to tie themselves into a long term contract with a fixed line provider. An Inquirer insider advised: “If you’re a student or you’re living in rented accommodation, then the prospect of an 18-month fixed line contract makes little sense and it’s also expensive. Alternatively, your address might have a poor credit rating for any number of reasons.”

A spokesperson for 3 also advised “We’re pleased 3’s prepay mobile broadband offering – which gives the same in-bundle pricing as our equivalent contract offering – is connecting such people.”

Analysys Mason, the telecommunication research firm highlighted in a recent report that Ireland was a hotspot for mobile broadband with the number of subscribers at 230, 000 which included 90, 000 customers that used the 3 service.

This move will mean that many more users will soon be getting mobile broadband access as an alternative to a fixed line connection and this offer will undoubtedly be followed by the other major mobile service providers looking to build on their existing customer base.
