Like other social networking sites Twitter has become hugely popular over the past year, and consumers that like the service will be pleased to hear that it will be free to Tweet via the 3 mobile broadband network for the foreseeable future.

The popularity of social networking suites has rocketed over the past twelve to eighteen months, and these days consumers both young and old use these sites on a regular basis for entertainment, sharing information and photographs, or simply keeping in touch with loved ones. Many people use these sites on a daily basis, and in many cases via a 3G mobile broadband network.

Research has shown that around fifty one percent of Internet users are now signed up to a Facebook account, and around seventeen percent of users have a Twitter account, with both social networking sites proving highly popular amongst consumers from all walks of life. One official said that these sites were extremely popular with younger people, stating: “The younger generation certainly cannot live without social media.”

Many mobile network providers have also caught on to the popularity of these websites, and with this in mind have tried to use social networking features and facilities as incentives to attract new customers. One mobile network provider, 3, recently launched an offer whereby those accessing the Internet on 3 mobile phones could use Twitter for free, which meant that their data allowance was not affected and in the case of pay as you go customers no charge was made.

It has now been announced by 3 that it has decided to extend this offer for the foreseeable future, which means that Twitter fans can continue to Tweet on their 3 mobile internet devices for free. An official from 3 said: “Our 3G network is purpose built for internet services like Twitter and we’re always looking for new ways to make these easy and affordable to use.”
