Jan 21 2012 / By Alex Ion

The Samsung-Apple battle has been always in the news. In the past, both the companies have filed suits galore against each other. The latest we hear is that Samsung has suffered a setback with regard to their first patent infringement claim against Apple.

The patent infringement case running in Germany’s Mannheim Regional Court was rejected by the judge Andreas Voss. Samsung’s complaint was on the patent violation related to the 3G/UMTS wireless telecommunications standard. After the hearing, the court dismissed the case and the exact reason for this is still unclear.

After the ruling, Samsung expressed their disappointment and stated that the court was not able to understand their views regarding the specific patent infringement by Apple in Germany.

Though they are unhappy, they pointed out that there are many other patent claims against Apple in the country. Currently, Samsung has four other lawsuits in Germany against Apple pointing the infringement of six more patents of the company.

Samsung, who can now appeal to the Karlsruhe Higher Regional Court, has not revealed what course of action comes next. The set back for Samsung comes just days after Apple had filed a new patent case against Samsung in Germany.

The iGiant has accused Sammy of violating their European design rights on a number of smartphones, including the Galaxy S II.
