Poor 3G coverage issues to be addressed by 3

The mobile network operator 3 has decided to address mobile broadband coverage issues by allowing disappointed customers to cancel their contracts.

Many people have signed up to mobile broadband services of late, with this type of technology becoming increasingly popular amongst those that want the freedom and flexibility to get online whilst they are out and about rather than being tied to a particular fixed location such as the home or the office.

However, one major issue that has affected many mobile broadband customers is the problem relating to coverage, with some people being unable to access their mobile broadband services in the areas that they wish to use the service. This is something that one mobile broadband provider has announced that it will be addressing by being more flexible with its mobile broadband services.

The UK mobile network provider 3 has announced recently that customers that are not happy with the coverage that comes with their mobile broadband service will be able to cancel their contract based on this matter. The provider has also stated that it will be suspending the sale of mobile broadband dongles in areas where the coverage is particularly poor, although these areas have not yet been identified.

An official from 3 said: “At the moment, we have some internal standards and, if you come within those and we can’t resolve it technically or through a change to your terms, we wouldn’t hold you to your contract.” He added: “When the whole mobile broadband thing took off, it was very much geared around browsing and email, and we’ve never said we’d be able to compete with high-speed fixed broadband. Where someone calls up and says they’re not able to download videos or do streaming, that’s not what it was intended for.”
