Customers of 3 mobile broadband will soon be made to view advertisements
It was recently announced by 3 mobile broadband provider that it is current searching for advertising partners to put adverts on their welcome page until the years end.
This will mean that every time the welcome page appears when connecting to the internet customers of 3 UK’s mobile broadband network will soon be seeing ad pop-ups.
Although it would appear that turning these ad pop-ups off is not going to be an option for user, 3 has advised its mobile broadband customers that the eventual placement will not be too intrusive on the welcome screen. Prospective buyers of ad space are, however, being advised by the mobile provider that this opportunity will enable it to place its advertisement to a sizeable target audience in a “bold and visible manner,” which does seem to somewhat contradict the promise it is making to its users.
The normal 3 dashboard will appear with its usual connection manager but will also have a panel displaying the advertisement whenever the 3 mobile broadband dongle is connected to the computer by the user.
Trials have already been carried out by 3 Austria of the dashboard advertising scheme and a click through rate of 6 percent is something that the mobile broadband provider says that it is happy with.
The Head of Advertising at 3 UK, Neil Andrews said when talking about this new concept “3 UK has always led the market when it comes to providing innovative advertising space on mobile because we have a uniquely powerful network. This has allowed us to do some very interesting things with mobile content and the advertising surrounding this.”
Although nothing has been said about whether the ad pop-ups will be exempt from the data allowance that 3 UK’s customers are given there is a chance that the additional graphics that will be implemented may possibly affect it.
