Network provider 3 has announced that it has activated another landmark 3G base station for improved 3G coverage for consumers.

It has been announced that the mobile network provider 3 UK has activated its tent thousandth 3G base station, which will enable consumers to benefit from better 3G coverage, greater capacity, and improved reliability. The new 3G station has been connected in South East London and is one of hundreds of sites that have been connected this month.

3 is working on expanding its network, and these increased connections will enable the provider to reach more sites over the course of this year. The latest landmark site means that 3G coverage has now reached around ninety three percent. With more and more people using mobile technology such as mobile broadband, smart phones, and other technologies the expansion of 3G coverage will prove invaluable.

An official from 3 UK said: ‘Over the past two years the continued growth of internet communications, smartphone use and mobile broadband uptake have brought the need for good 3G network coverage into sharp focus for millions of consumers. Our network is already the biggest 3G network in the UK. Now we’re adding new coverage and capacity across the country to meet demand and bring the benefits of 3G to people who’ve never had access in their area before.’

In the meantime the provider is in the process of going through a joint venture with another provider, T-Mobile, which forms part of the Mobile Broadband Network Limited joint venture. This venture will allow the two providers to offer 3G coverage using around fifty percent of the masts that would otherwise be needed.
