Mobile broadband network problems for O2

Dec 23 2009 / By Rob Webber

Mobile communications giant O2 has recently admitted that there have been problems with its mobile broadband network over the past couple of days, which have affected the ability of its iPhone customers to use their service.

The original provider of the hugely popular Apple iPhone, O2 has plenty of customers that have managed to get their hands on these smart phones. However, not all of the provider’s iPhone customers will be happy at the moment, as the provider has been experiencing problems with its mobile broadband network over the past couple of days that have made it difficult or impossible for some of its iPhone users to utilise their service and use apps.

The mobile broadband and network provider admitted recently that the problems had been ongoing for a couple of days, and that they were looking into the issues to try and get them sorted out. The provider has said that the problem is not geographical but has not said just how many iPhone customers have been affected by the problems.

The twitter page for O2 was updated with a message on Sunday reading: “We’re sorry that some mobile customers have had problems with data today – these services will be back up tonight.” The problems are giving further rise to speculation from some industry experts that mobile broadband networks will struggle to cope with the strain of the rising number of people using smart phones such as Apple iPhones to get online and download data.

Just weeks ago O2 promised further investment in improving its networks so that customers would benefit from improved service. An official from the company said: “Our £500 million investment over the last two years has enabled us to offer our customers the best products in the world, including the Apple iPhone and Palm Pre.”
